This will be one of the most tremendous collections of southern antiques that we have seen in years!  The estate of well-known collector and dealer of antiques, Sara & Sam Garrett, offers a mass of fine Americana spanning over 200 years. Please note, due to the scope of this collection the contents of the estate will be moved away from the home to downtown Chattanooga for sale.

From the Family of Sam & Sara: "The Garrett’s were a fixture in the Chattanooga antiquing community for over 40 years. The community was saddened by their passing together in September and October of 2020, after celebrating 70 years of marriage. They began collecting in the late 60’s attending estate sales and local auctions, and their home on Grubb Road in Hixson became filled with treasures of Americana. Sara and Sam were both extremely talented and artistic and made the perfect team for creating unique and collective hand-made items. Sara was a gifted artist who could paint everything from decorative furniture to her signature whimsical gourds painted as Santa Claus. Sam was a talented craftsman and woodworker who could build anything from hanging cabinets to bird houses. Sam became known for his ability to repair antiques and developed a large customer base across Chattanooga. Their home on Grubb Road was known and loved by many for its authentic warmth and charm, and many loved to visit just to absorb the atmosphere and converse with Sam and Sara who always welcomed visitors. Sara and Sam were known for their hospitality and infectious personalities, they never met a stranger, and were loved by many. In order to continue their passion, Sam discovered two authentic 1860’s log cabins in East Chattanooga, and purchased them in the early 1980’s. He painstakingly labeled and disassembled them, transported to Grubb Road, and reassembled both in the woods behind their house. The cabins became known as ‘Garrett House Antiques’ and were the perfect setting to showcase their estate and auction finds. They began a yearly invitation only outdoor sale, where 100’s of folks would line up, eagerly awaiting Sara’s traditional blow of an antique brass horn, to signal the commencement of the sale. The frenzy would begin as folks scrambled for hand-made crafts, painted furniture, Sam’s birdhouses, and a plethora of unique Americana collectibles from quilts to cherry furniture and glassware. This long-standing tradition will be remembered by many and Sara and Sam’s legacy will live on, not only as antique dealers but as wonderful folks."
